Chromatography experiment

CHROMATOGRAPHY

Aim:
To separate the different pigments in inks using paper chromatography.

Equipment:
Ink pens, small beaker, a strip of filter paper, ice-block stick, tape, chromatography solution.

Method:
  1. Cut a piece of filter paper long enough to reach the bottom of your test tube.
  2. Rule a line in pencil 2cm from the bottom of the paper.
  3. Fill the test tube with 1cm of chromatography solution.
  4. Place a dot of ink above the ruled line.
  5. Tape paper to stick and place in solution.
  6. Wait and observe.
  7. Repeat with 2 other colours.
Results:
The main part of the experiment today was to see what happens to the colours when the water goes up the strip of paper. What I saw from this experiment is that the colours on the strips of paper went up and made different colours like blue, orange, and red. As the colours did there change I took some picture's of the strips and had a look at how they formed.

Conclusion:
In this Experiment, primary colours in the test tube racks explain what happens to only one colour. That one Colour changes to another.
